Seem's like for years all my friends disappear on the weekends and when I ask where they're going, it's always "Up North!" I've always been curious about what one does "Up North", and where exactly "Up North" is...
I was way up north one time over Spring Break with my friend Trisha who lived in Alpena. Alpena, if my memory serves me correctly, is really up there...like an 8 hour drive or something. Trisha used to get ticked off when people would say they were going "Up North" and they meant Ludington. But I digress...
This weekend, a friend from church generously leant us his cabin on a lake which I suppose could be classified as "Up North." It is in Evart, and it did take us 2 hours to get there.
We had a fabulous time, it was too cold to go swimming in the lake, which suited us just fine as we all spent a good amount of time napping, reading, cooking and enjoying huge breakfasts consisting of french toast, strawberries, real whipped cream and real syrup (not tapped from any of the beautiful Maple tree's actually located "Up North." )
Anyway, it was just great. No cell phones, no internet, and just enough satelite TV to keep us from going too crazy. If that is what life is like "Up North"...I'm in! The skies are a little bluer, the trees a little taller, and the people just a little friendlier...at least that's what the poem tacked on the wall of the cabin claimed!
