I left comment earlier that I like woodgrain. Officially I LOVE the piece. And from what I can tell you did a FABULOUS job. I say live with it for awhile - put a cool vase and photos on it and see if you like it better.
I think it is already FAB!
I'd have to see it with the rest of your furnishings, but I think I would tell you to whitewash it so you can still see the woodgrain yet it would look white. My parents did their cupboards in their kitchen that way and it looks beautiful.
Now personally, I like it this way. But you have to do what makes you happy. Goodluck with whatever you decide to do.
Keep it! keep it! Look at that beautiful wood! I've never seen such gorgeous wood in my life. Do not cover up what that tree worked so long and hard for. Those fantastic grains and NATURAL colors.
