Christmas is on!
This is the actual fireplace at my actual house, and it is actually decorated...For Christmas, even though it is still November! This may not seem like a big deal to most, but some years I really fight wanting to put up decorations at all.
The motivation this year came with the completion of Mallory's stocking from Grandma LaBarge. She needlepoints a stocking for each of her Grandchildren, just like my Grandma LaBarge used to do. My Grandma started the "needlepointing" thing just after my stocking, shown here, 2nd from the left. Apparently cutting out the big red candy cane and gingerbread house and man, then sewing on all the sparkles was just too tedious for her, so she started needlepointing them instead. Needlepointing instead! Do you know it takes my Mom over 6 months to do each stocking? I wish you could see the detail in the picture, they are incredibly beautiful and detailed.
What a gift....I hope the girls hang their stockings on their fireplaces, next to their kids stockings. Oh wait...Who is going to make their kids stockings? Um, I certainly don't have the talent, or patience to do it. Maybe I should start conversations with my sister Carrie now, who can in fact needlepoint?
