Can't win for losing!

I made a decision. I appreciate all the input from the previous blog, and after thinking long and hard about it...I went for paper. I thought I should check out the Franklin Covey store at the mall at Rivertown Crossings. I asked the very nice saleslady what I thought was a simple question, "hey, I need some pages for my Franklin, what do you recommend?" She asked me about 37 questions...and I started to get dizzy. Sensing I was about to faint, she said, "you've never been to one of our Planning Seminars, have you?" Planning Seminars? They teach you how to write appointments down in a book? Oh, they're more than that she assured me, they teach you how to prioritize your life and help you to set goals. Set goals for my life, or goals in remembering to write down appointments?

I finally got the lady off track on trying to get me to come to a Planning Seminar, (I'd forget to write the date down and totally miss it anyway.) I told her my husband thought I should get the pages that show the whole week in two pages, with columns for each day. That way, I could see the whole week at a time. Nice saleslady wasn't real hot on the idea. She felt I really needed "task lists" incorporated in my daily planning objectives. Apparently, task lists are fancy "to do" lists. I told nice saleslady that I don't need that, I scratch out my "to do" lists on my white legal pads. I think I heard an audible gasp! Well, this way, she told me, "you'll have them all in one convenient place." I stammered a bit, and we finally compromised on tear away task lists, that you use like a bookmark. Afterall, they are a brand new product in the Franklin Covey line. (Remember, I'm an easy upsell)

After spending 20 minutes with my new life coach, she diagnosed that I really need a pen that has 4 different colors of ink, so as to mark each child and husbands activities in different colors. We oohed and ahhed over the 3 selections, before I finally chose the tortous shell variety. I almost chocked when the total for all this crap came to $101.93! I politely told the nice saleslady/life coach that I needed to return the $45.00 pen, and I promised her I would put it on my Christmas list, which as we all know is code for "I cannot afford this!"

All was well in Planner-Land, and I woke up today feeling pretty good about myself. Until I looked at the calendar this morning at 9:15, and realized I missed my daughters doctor appoinment.

I started with a PDA and HATED it!!! It never failed, get to entering something in and the batteries would die. Or worse yet, get into it and find the kids had erased something while playing with it. It was horrible!

I have since purchased the Mom's Plan-it good, old-fashioned paper version. It is wonderful! No one messes anything up (expect when coaches change practice times or I change work hours) and nothing can be erased (because I write everything in ink).

It has been a wonderful addition and has worked famiously for keeping our busy little family organized! We even joke in our house, that unless it gets in Mom's book, it doesn't exist. (A sad commentary on our busy schedule and Mom's ppor memory)

Keep it up Ceci and you will wonder how you ever got organized without it!

Rofl,
Hi Cece,
I was trying to leave you a note yesterday but it didn't get through. I use the pda it's so much easier to use and you won't have to worry next year about buying the new calender year for your frankin. The Pda I have has an alarm you can set for your apppointments. and it was a lot less then what you paid for the "Franklin" you got roped into.
Good luck with the paper planner it's still not to late. As for the muliti color pen? You can buy them a whole lot cheaper at an office supply store.
