something old washed in something new

I have been doing my own laundry since I was about 12. My Mom had 5 kids, so when you hit middle school, she gave you a 3 minute lesson in separating the whites from the darks, showed you which knob to turn and you were off and running. I have used Tide Free ever since it has been on the market. No perfumes, no dyes, no nuthin. Well, after 20 years of doing laundry the same way, I decided to switch things up a bit. I thought I'd save the household 63 dollars a year in energy costs by washing everything in cold water.
This weekend I did 8 loads of wash in my new Tide Coldwater, which foams up quite nicely and gave the clothes a completely different smell. As I was searching for a picture of the new detergent for this blog, I came across an article about washing your clothes in cold water. Apparently, you're not supposed to wash children's clothes (I have a 4 year old and a one year old) in coldwater, because although it gets the dirt out of stuff, it doesn't get the bugs. Did you know your clothing has bugs, and germs, and all sorts of unmentionable creepy crawling things? Eeew! The article said not to wash your sheets, underthings, or most other things you need to get the bugs out of with coldwater.
So for a reward for trying something new, I get to RE-WASH 8 LOADS OF LAUNDRY!

Nice Blog Site Ceese!

I'll remember the laundry tip next time I do laundry...which I think I'm scheduled for...let's see...I'm not sure when I'm doing laundry next!

Reese would like the bug thing. He'd want us to quit washing his clothes so he could grow and collect them!

Here's another random stat...did you know if you unravel the DNA strand from each of your 75 trillion cells in your body and connected them all end-to-end it could go to the moon and back 20,000 times! We are fearfully and wonderfully made!

Ceci - I wish you had asked me BEFORE you bought the new laundry detergent. I would have warned you.
Sorry, but a lesson learned.

Oh heavens! Don't rewash! (ok, maybe the 'underclothes')- as soon as you take them out of the dryer and they touch the bed or couch or whatever, they have germs on them again- that's life! I would spray a good spray of Febreeze or something over them that kills germs and call it good for this time! That is just my 2 cents (and I am a really picky clean person :))

I didn't know about the bugs in clothing. I always wash in hot water anyways!

Interesting!! I wash everything in coldwater, b/c hot water shrinks everything. I don't think I would bother w/rewashing 8 loads however.

I have switched all my laundry products over to Melaleuca. Mela Power, Mela Brite and Mela Soft. They are natural and clean a full load with only 1 once/1 pump.
It kills the dust mites.
I wash in Warm Water with Cold Rinse. "It gets out the toughest offernder without using brute chemical force" "It is mild, biodegradable formula..."
