project update
This is a project Elliana is working on. It's going to be a banner that spells out "Happy Birthday", something permanent we can pull out on birthdays. It's a great use of extra fabric and easy enough for a 6 year old to manage. I didn't get any pictures of her sewing the triangles on her sewing machine, but she is getting really good at it. More pictures when we can squeeze in another craft day!

oh yeah, i totally want to make one of those - thanks for reminding me! never thought of having miriam do it, that's a good idea too. how are you going to do the letters, and are you hemming the triangles or just leaving the raw edges?
We are hemming the edges...I am somewhat of a neat freak in that way. I'll let you know how I'm doing the letters as soon as I figure it out:) I had her cut out the triangles in all different fabrics and also triangles out of a flannel for the back, to give it some weight. I'll give exact "instructions" when we complete this! Mallory's birthday is in a few weeks, so I better get on it.
I *LOVE* the chair she's sitting on. Did you buy an antique chair, or finish it to look like it? Good luck with the banner! PS--this looks like it came straight from Soulemama's blog!
another question: did you make the green curtains i see in the picture? i am looking for pretty much that exact fabric/curtains for a project... care to share where they're from?
Thanks for your interest in the project...and in some of my previous projects! The chairs were stained oak chairs I inherited from my parents. I paint them a different color every couple of years:) I use a paint sprayer and Benjamin Moore oil-based paint to get them really smooth. The green curtains I made from fabric I got at Fields Fabrics a couple of years ago...I don't know what brand of fabric it is anymore, unfortunately.

made with fabric you can write on like a chalkboard, apparently - have you heard of this stuff?
