an old dog...

This was my favorite Christmas gift. The "Product Red" ipod nano. It is special because, we're going to Africa in 2 weeks (and Red products somehow fund Africa-related initiatives) and because my husband had it engraved with a special message on the back. I have never had an ipod, other that the one I got for Christmas last year, and returned because I wanted the "Red" one. (big mistake at the time, but over the year Apple upgraded the nano to include video, which will come in handy during the 20 hour flight to Africa). Apple also upgraded the mac book to the MacBook Air, which is something else I have my eye on, but I digress. I've got the ipod and I'm happy.
However, I am a techno-idiot. It might be a term I just coined, feel free to use it. I love my Mac, but don't really know how to use it other than typing stuff up, and sending emails. I use I-tunes, but have no idea how to organize everything in it. Dave, who is not a techno-idiot, flits around his Mac like nobody's business. He told me not to plug my ipod in until he could help me. I should know by now to trust him, but I went ahead anyway.
I was doing the laundry last week and wanted to listen to the new Rob Bell sermon. I thought, surely, it can't be too hard figuring out an ipod! I plug it it, and it prompts me to press a few buttons, and I'm figuring we're off and running. I even managed to get to the sermon I wanted. However, it also synced my entire library of stuff from i-tunes, which includes 250 "songs" that are really 30 and 60 second soundtracks, which I use to put under the ads I produce. I started freaking out and yelling at Dave, "why is it doing that...I don't want all those songs!?!?"
And in his calm voice (the one I hate when I'm mad) he asks why I didn't wait for him to help me.
"Because I wanted to listen to it now!!" (My 2 year olds method of handling problems must be rubbing off...)
Finally last night, we sit down and he tries to teach me how to organize a playlist, how to select which lists you want synced, and which ones you don't. I really started to hyperventilate when he showed me how to "code" songs that you import, to automatically go into certain lists...um, I think I'll just do it the manual way, thanks. Then the yelling started again.
"Why does Apple do things this way, it doesn't make sense to my brain!?!?"
As if Apple or anyone else can figure out how to make anything make sense to my brain! Anyway, when all was said and done, I learned a few new things, not as many as I hoped, and I have another ipod lesson coming.

Why is it so hard to teach an old dog new tricks?

Let's Connect!

Because old dogs are stubborn and set in their ways. Good thing, you are not an old dog.
