I am totally overwhelmed by e-Bay. I don't know many people who are as scared of it as I am. I have a sister who is always wheelin and dealin on e-bay, and she makes great money doing it. I have another friend who is putting her three kids through Christian school, funded by her e-bay business. Everyone tells me, "it's not that hard." I realize that it's not "hard", but my stomach drops to the floor every time I open the site! I feel like there is this secret world of buying and selling, complete with secret language, and I can't figure out the secret! I would prefer to use the "buy-it-now" option. At least then, I can just make a purchase, without having to compete with other buyers who have figured out how to up-bid me by one penny at the very last second! Honestly, the whole world of e-bay is such a mystery to me. One guy I know sold off the parts of his i-pod that he had dropped in the toilet. I think he made more money on the parts, than he paid for the actual i-pod. Genius!
So last week, I was looking for a duvet cover from Pottery Barn. Someone told me to "check e-bay", instead of ordering it from the catalog. After looking for about an hour and a half, I found the perfect one. And, it was 50 bucks less than the one from the catalog! And, there was a "buy it now" option! So, know what I did? Yup, I called my sister and told her to order it for me. Which she did. It took 5 seconds. And it came to her house the next day! AND, she said she'd wash it for me, so I can throw it on the bed when I get it home.
Now who is the genius??

I love Ebay! I buy and sell on it but you are right, it is overwhelming if you don't 'know the ropes'. I am thinking of teaching a 6 week Ebay class this fall ( I teach computers to Senior Citizens and teach through community Ed). There is a lot of intrest and it really isn't too hard but there are some 'secrets' that make it more of a game than an auction :)
Ceci,
Check out Craigslist.com - same thing as Ebay, smaller and local....
