Question of a generation

Where were you September 11, 2001?

My sister Becky was a freshman at Marquette University, in Wisconson and she was laid up in the hospital there. Oh yeah, and it was her birthday. My Mom and 2 other sisters decided to drive down and spend the day with her. We happily chatted and laughed on the car trip down, excited to see Becky and hopefully cheer her up a bit. After a 4 hour car trip, we arrived at the hospital, ran to her room, burst through the door, and yelled "Happy Birthday!" She turned to us, and said in a weak voice, "America is under attack."
What a horrible day. Sitting in a cold, industrial hospital with a very sick sister, watching a very sick plot unfold. There was a very personal tragedy about to unfold in my own life, at the end of that same week. I was well aware about what was to happen in my own life, and for a fleeting moment, I thought, maybe it's the end of the world. I was actually hoping it was. More about that on Friday. Anyway, on this day...Happy Birthday Becky. And to the widows and victims families of 9-11...keep on healing.

On 9/11 I was babysitting for a little girl who was sleeping. I was watching something on cable, when her dad called and asked if I was watching the news, I wasn't so I flipped the channel at about the same time the second plane hit. The rest of that day and into the next few days my eyes were glued to the tv. I'll never forget those days!

I wrote about where I was on my blog as well. The weather mirrors my mood on this day of rememberance.

I was at work when I started hearing co-workers mention it. I called my husband and he started watching it on TV. By the time the second plane hit, my co-workers were in the boardroom watching TV. I continued to work at my desk. I'm sure it was not because of dedication. I really only started to reflect and really feel what happened over the last year or so.

I recently read One Tuesday Morning and Beyond Tuesday Morning by Karen Kingsbury. Very well written and I highly recommend!

I can't do the Karen Kingsbury books. One of my very best friends was scheduled to be on the 79th floor of tower 2 at 8:30 am. the person she had a meeting with called at 6am and said that his daughter had taken suddenly ill and that he needed to rescedule the meeting, calling just moments before she left her home.
i wonder if in the midst of remembering today of we've thought of reminding those left with us how much we love them. I think i'll go call my friend.

I was at work at Meijer on 9/11/01. One of the managers came running past me and said "a plane just crashed into the world trade center" from that time on we were all glued to the TV. I remember Peter Jennings was right there and all of a sudden the 2nd tower was hit and just staring in shock at what was happening on the TV right in front of me. I also remember saying a silent prayer for everyone who was involved.
