I have had a really hard time lately with remembering appointments. Last week, I forgot my chiropractor appointment, and I totally forgot to show up to the women's group thing I signed up for at church. I think it's because I am in denial about the fact that it is the very last week of September. When did that happen? I need to get organized, which is something I have been trying to do my entire adult life. I have this "i-calendar" program on my computer, but I really cant figure out how to use it that well. My husband has one of those huge square phones that looks like a calculator, in which he keeps all his appointments-but I don't think that kind of thing will work for me. I looked at PDA's at Staples yesterday, but if I can't keep up with i-calendar, how am I supposed to keep up with that tiny thing?
I think I need the old fashioned paper calendar. I have a really beautiful brown leather Franklin Covey planner, which I have tried to use at least twice in my life. I write 3 things in it, and it's over! I even gifted it to my Mom at one point...She wrote 3 things in it and it was over for her too! I am going to give it one more college try. But there is always a snag anytime I attempt to get organized. The Franklin Planner website was all out of the pages I needed, the one's that start in October and go from there. Which means I can put off this organizational quest until January, 2007. I guess I'll go back to my old method for now, shoving those little business-card reminder thingy's that the doctor's offices and hair places give you in the bottom of my purse, and using my super-power memory to pull them out the day before the event!

My 2 cents. I made it a goal to get organized with planning and paperwork for 2005 and I have it down 70% (which is huge for me!)
I use Microsoft outlook calendar. It is conected to my Email and gives me reminders in the morning of what is going on. I also carry a small, cheap planner in my purse but before I commit to something I always say I have to double check the calendar at home. It works great for me because I check my Email every morning so I can check the calendar for the day at the same time-you can set it to show the week or the whole month at a time. I can also Email the appointments to go right into my husbands calendar too. I have a hard time staying organized and it helps to keep it as simple as possible and all in one place. That is what works for me.
My vote is for the Franklin Planner. I've tried the electronic route, but what I've found is that when I have to MANUALLY copy all of the things on my to-do list each day (at the beginning of the day), it really brings the point home that I really NEED to get it done. It is motivating to me, AND makes me aware again of how I need to manage my time (I also like the "assign a priority letter" to each task... it changes daily!)
Well Cece,
To be honest I use to use the old fashion way of paper. But found that trying to remember to write the things in it I needed to remember, never worked. Having a pda works much better because...
1) You don't have to keep remembering to buy the next years calendar, and hope they don't stop making the version your using.
2) You don't have to wait for the following year to start using it and getting into the habit of remembering to write things in.
3) It's alway's where I can see it and find it.
Just my opinion but if your as busy as I am with things at work, at home and online with ministry, it's just a respondsible move.
I'd agree with getting a PDA. You can synch those with your e-mail program too, to remind you, and you can also put an audible reminder on them (so your PDA will make a noise a certain amount of time before your appointment).
I used to have a Franklin planner, but got sick of all of the papers, and of carrying the thing everywhere! The PDA fits into my purse. I also like PDAs because you can put tasks in to repeat every so often - every Tesuday clean the bathroom, every YEAR on Oct 24, send a b-day card to Susie.. and you never have to enter it in your PDA after you've entered it once and set it to repeat!
I could go on, but I'll just say - the PDA is the way to go!!!
