Girls Weekend!

Dave was out of town this weekend and the girls and I partied hard! Elliana got one of those "Book It" personal pan pizzas for reading 15 minutes a day and she "treated" us all to Pizza Hut for dinner. Then we splurged on buckets of popcorn from Blockbuster, the girls loved watching it pop!
Then we watched Evan Almighty, which the girls loved, and I thought was pretty terrible. Then I had to explain to my 5 year old that Morgan Freeman isn't really God, just playing him in a movie...I'm not sure if she got it or not. She'll have to talk to Daddy about it when he gets home!
Then, on Saturday, we stayed in our pajamas until 2:00 and they ran around while I worked on the "red-chair project." More on that later...
All in all, it was a great weekend!

Mom and Dad in-law are fine...

The winds shifted before the fire took out the community where the in-laws live. The fires are still going, however. My brother in law's brother lost his whole house...let's keep praying for those in California affected by these fires.

Not funny anymore

Just talked to my Mother-in-law, and they are being evacuated from their home. They were told the community in which they live could be engulfed within 2 hours.

Pray they get out safely and that they find a place to stay tonight...they were told to "just head north."

Fire!

My in-laws called this morning to let us know they were okay...so far. Apparently there are some serious wildfires blazing across Southern California, which I didn't know about until they called. The town where Dave grew up, Ramona, was totally evacuated this morning. His folks are in Escondido, and they got a call this morning telling them to "stand by" in case they needed to evacuate. I jumped on line to check out the situation and the only thing I could find was an article about the fire...AND WHICH HOLLYWOOD STARS HOMES WERE IN DANGER! Check it out, apparently the only concern this author has is whether or not Sting and Pamela Anderson are going to be homeless. (I just had to laugh!) Well, Dennis and Dorothy. You can, um, flee to Michigan if things get really bad.

My little pumpkins...

Happy Pastor Appreciation...to me?

My husband is a youth pastor, an amazing pastor by the way, and this Sunday the church blessed us with some gift certificates in honor of Pastor Appreciation Month. There were some gift cards to some really great restaurants, that they were sure the wives would like. There was also a gift card to Menards that they were sure the guys themselves would like. Except we all know who started hyperventilating over that card. Yup, I made Dave drive straight to Menards after church where we bought an awesome 6 foot WORKBENCH!
(I even let him think it was ours to share) Okay, it is ours to share, but I did get to organize it.

Rocky Mountain High

My sister and I just got back from a great weekend in Denver, Colorado. I think God knew I needed a break, because a few days of staring at those beautiful mountains was just what I needed. My sister was there for an Economics conference, so while she was there, I spent time walking around, reading a book and people watching. I had the oddest experience too. I never once worried about the things I normally worry about. I just thoroughly enjoyed myself. I was ready to get back to Dave and the girls, especially the last day, but I am trying to bring that feeling of total peace and calm back into my "real life." The life filled with work, kids, appointments, ballet classes, school pick ups and on and on. The Bible says, "who by worrying can add a single hour to his life?" Isn't that true? That verse has been running through my mind over and over. God really showed me that it is possible to exist in a place of peace, and now that I know it's possible, my prayer is that it becomes probable.
